I know there is the option in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, "Enable auto popup dialog, when device has been plugged in." I have that enabled and when I plug a 3.5 mm cable in to the Green (Front Speaker Out) or the Blue (Line In) it pops up asking what I have connected and lets me select what it is.
I was curious if any of you could test something for me on your system:
